MCU Fans are Disappointed Zac Efron Wasn't Cast as Adam Warlock

Over four years of anticipation has led us to this moment, Marvel fans! Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn finally confirmed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has found its Adam Warlock and it's none other than Will Poulter. Best remembered by fans for his various roles in projects like Narnia, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, and his meme-worthy performance in We're The Millers, Poulter's casting came as a huge shocker to a lot of people who weren't expecting him to get the part.

For starters, Will's physical appearance and overall aura don't exactly scream Adam Warlock. Secondly, another actor has long been rumored to be in contention for the role and it wasn't Poulter. If you've been closely following the rumor mill all these years, you would know that Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron was reportedly in the running to play the character in live-action form, or someone who closely resembles him, at least.

That rumor was debunked by James Gunn earlier this year and according to him, he never considered Efron for the part but that didn't stop MCU diehards from being convinced that Gunn is just trying to conceal information and that the High School Musical alumnus will in fact become part of the billion-dollar franchise.

Following Poulter's official casting, "Zefron" fans expressed their dismay on social media and a lot of them believe that Marvel Studios missed the boat by not casting him as Adam Warlock. Check out some of the reactions below:

Zac would've been a fantastic choice for Adam Warlock and I gotta say, I'm also a bit let down that he didn't land the role simply because I've been wanting to see him join the MCU for years now. For a time, it looked like a possibility but I guess the powers that be have other plans in mind. As for Poulter, fans shouldn't underestimate his acting prowess and James Gunn's ability to make things work.

The MCU's third Guardians of the Galaxy film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
