MCU Avengers Vs. Zombies in Marvel's New Mini-Series

Marvel's cinematic Avengers have turned back alien invasions and a super android gone amok. Next to battling Thanos in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, they might be facing their greatest enemy yet: a global epidemic of zombies who are overrunning the world. This will happen in good old comic form, though, as Marvel Comics is developing Zombies Assemble as a nail-biting mini-series.

Artist Jim Zub will actually be adapting and reimagining for an American audience the Avengers: Zombie Assemble manga-style comic book written by Yusaka Komiyama and which had been released only in Japan.

It's not the first time that Earth's Mightiest Heroes had battled against the walking dead. The insanely popular Marvel Zombies series a few years back had actually increased the horror levels in the zombie apocalypse by showing what could happen if our favorite heroes like Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man had been bitten and reanimated as hungry, brain-eating, but intelligent corpses. The attack isn't just limited to the Avengers - even the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the once-mighty Galactus are taken down.

In Zombies Assemble, the line-up of heroes is limited to the heroes we've seen on film. In this case, we might see Cap, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Iron Man, Nick Fury, Hulk, and the Thor risking being zombie food to save millions of lives. The odds are against them - and it might be a more fearsome battle than the Avengers vs. X-Men challenge that Patrick Stewart (Professor X in the X-Men movies) had issued.

As Zub described to Newsarama, this is not about a small band of heroes fighting isolated pockets of walkers after the world has been taken over, ala The WalkingDead. This is more of the Avengers caught in the middle of the crisis as it explodes - the ultimate superhero team stemming the tide of World War Z.

One thing that will make Zombies Assemble similar to Marvel Zombies is that frightening but timeless rule about end-of-the-world scenarios. As Zub warns fans in the interview: "Expect the unexpected. No one is safe and brains are tasty."
