Patrick Stewart On Who Will Win in an X-Men vs. Avengers Fight

Patrick Stewart has weighed in on who thinks who will win in an all-out fight between his beloved X-Men and the Avengers. Not surprisingly, he backs his fellow mutants.

The respected actor who has played Professor Charles Xavier the past 17 years in several X-Men movies was answering a question put to him by Comicbook during a press con for his upcoming Wolverine-centric film, Logan.

Stewart at first joked that he didn't even know who the Avengers were. Then he quipped, "Of course I do. There's no contest. Bring on Famke Janssen, James Marsden ... we'll sort them out."

A cinematic fight between Marvel's two big superhero teams would be a dream come true for many fans. Right now, two different studios handling the two groups make it almost impossible.

Avengers is ruling it at present but Stewart's reference to his two X-Men colleagues makes a good point. In the comic books, Marsden's Cyclops was a driven leader who did not take crap from anyone. Janssen's Phoenix could decimate a whole planet, let alone a bunch of superhumans. The 77-year-old Stewart has said he hasn't given up on reprising Professor X. If an X-Men vs. Avengers movie were made against all odds, he would want to be there beside his fellow mutants.

The 12-issue Avengers vs. X-Men comic book crossover event in 2012 really showed how these two teams matched each other in terms of firepower, fight strategy, weaponry, and sheer cussedness.

The first X-Men movie where Stewart first assumed the role might seem a little tame compared to the superhero films of today. But back in 2000, at a time when superhero movies were on the wane thanks to misfires like Steel and Batman and Robin, it rejuvenated the genre and brought back audiences to the moviehouse.

Safe to say, without X-Men's breakthrough, we might not be enjoying something as grand and as epic as the Avengers films today.

So have it on, Sir Patrick!

In the meantime, we can watch Stewart and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine take on other bad guys in Logan, which will be released on March 3, 2017.
