Following the huge success of The Batman in early 2022, a lot of fans are now looking forward to the release of the upcoming spinoff series The Penguin which will center on Colin Farrell's Oswald Cobblepot.

However, as a result of the writer's strike, production for the series shut down last June, and it is set to resume once the ongoing actors' strike ends hopefully very soon.

Some fans have been wondering now whether the series will be able to make it on its 2024 release given all the strike-related delays. Now, we finally have an update regarding its release and it looks like fans may still be able to see the series as early as next year.

Max chief Casey Bloys recently announced (via journalist Meghan O'Keefe) the upcoming slate for the streamer in a presentation at the HBO headquarters where it was confirmed that The Penguin is targeted for release in fall 2024.

The series was previously planned for release in around spring before the strike, but now it is being set back for several more months. It was only in its third month of filming when production was shut down.

If the actors' strike ends very soon, it is likely that they'll be able to resume filming before the end of this year and finish by early spring so a fall release next year could definitely happen if things are right on schedule.

Aside from the spinoff series, The Batman Part II was also affected by the strikes as it was supposed to begin filming this month ahead of its scheduled release in theaters on October 2025, but a delay is likely to be imminent as well.

While this news might be disappointing for some fans, it is also understandable since the prolonged strike has made the delay inevitable and all we can hope is that the studios will finally agree on a fair deal with the actors' guild so that all productions can finally resume again soon.

For now, let's wait for more news and updates regarding the progress of the highly-anticipated spinoff series and whether production will be able to resume immediately once the strike ends.

The Batman is available to stream on Max.
