Birds of Prey Isn’t An R-Rated Movie Just Yet

While Warner Brothers surprised fans with an exciting first look teaser for the studio's upcoming Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) today, word has it the studio isn't actively pursuing an R or PG-13 rating for its upcoming DC Extended Universe installment.

According to a report by ComicBook.com, rumors about Birds of Prey's rating has started spreading online with some fans speculating that the DCEU movie would take on an R-Rated tone and others claiming that Warner Brothers would pursue a PG-13 rating.

However, Paul Shirey, Editor-in-Chief of Joblo, has just claimed that the studio has emailed him saying that they haven't decided on a rating for the film just yet.

This is to be expected, of course. Production on Birds of Prey's has just recently begun. Without any footage to review the MPAA has no way of rating the upcoming Batman spinoff. Right now we have no idea whether Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan plans to make the film violent, sexual, and brassy, however, it is possible that the film will take on an R-Rated stance of a PG-13 stance as production goes along.

Harley Quinn star Margot Robbie did once hint at Birds of Prey being Rated-R in an interview with Collider, saying that she pitched "the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley," because she thought that her character needed friends and that she wouldn't ever make do in her own standalone film.

Some fans also believe an R-rated stance would do the film more justice, though it would probably limit the film's viewership.
