Matias Leveratto Wins The Magic: The Gathering Mythic Championship III at Las Vegas

Matias Leveratto, the Argentinian Magic: The Gathering player and the underdog of the top four of the Mythic Championship III, has won the whole tournament in Las Vegas today with his Simic Nexus Standard deck.

Leveratto qualified for the Magic: The Gathering Mythic Championship III through the highly-competitive MTG Arena MCQ (Mythic Championship Qualifier). Leveratto battled through three days of Magic Arena matches to emerge as the winner of MCIII in Las Vegas. On Day 2, he managed to beat the MTG Hall of Famer from Hong Kong, Lee Shi Tian, to make it to Sunday's Top 4 showdown.

Leveratto beat American pro player Brad Nelson in the upper bracket but Nelson wasn't done with his excellent run since the start of the MPL Weekly War of the Spark split. Nelson defeated the legendary Kai Budde in an Esper Hero mirror match. However, for Nelson to earn the title of the Mythic Championship III champion, he'd have to to win two best-of-three matches against Leveratto, who only needed to win one. Nelson beat Leveratto in the first best-of-three match in the finals.

Nelson won the first game of the second best-of-three match, giving Leveratto pressure to beat Nelson two games in a row. On the second match, Nelson had Leveratto lethal on his next turn, but the Argentinian player managed to find a copy of "Nexus of Fate", which gives him an extra turn to help him take the victory and get to a third and final game to determine the champion.

Leveratto won the grand prize of $100,000 USD, an invite to the 2019 Magic World Championship on December, and 50 Mythic points.
