We just recently got an image of Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack the lamplighter for Mary Poppins returns, and now we also have a good look at the Banks children all grown-up for the movie as well. Looks like Michael Banks grew up to be just as stuck-up as his banker father.
The Banks siblings will be played by Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom) and Ben Whishaw (Perfume, Cloud Atlas), and the movie is set to be a sequel to the original. This time around, the backdrop will be Depression-era London, and Michael will have some children of his own.
The synopsis is as follows:
In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael's three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
I'm very interested in the angle they're taking with the movie, and I'm happy it isn't a full-on reboot. I wish they had Julie Andrews cameo in some way, as well as Dick Van Dyke.
Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters Dec. 25. 2018.
