First Look At Lin-Manuel Miranda In Mary Poppins Returns

With Emily Blunt taking over Julie Andrews' classic role as Mary Poppins in Mary Poppins Returns, Lin-Manuel Miranda will be joining her as Jack the lamplighter. A new image has been leaked of Miranda in full costume for the movie.

Pictures of Blunt and Miranda were posted up on Twitter by Gordon Harrold, with Blunt appearing in a red costume this time around. It looks like Miranda's character will be a stand-in for Dick Van Dyke's character Bert, who was a chimney sweep and street performer in the first movie.

The movie will be set during the Depression Era in London, with the kids from the original movie already grown up and having children of their own. Emily Mortimer (The Newsroom) will be playing the role of Jane Banks while Ben Wishaw (Spectre, Cloud Atlas) will be playing Jane's younger brother Michael.

The movie is also said to be based on other books from P.L. Travers. Though fresh of the success of Moana, Lin-Manuel Miranda looks like he won't be writing any music for the movie.

In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael's three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Mary Poppins Returns is set for a release on Dec. 25, 2018.
