Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation hints at a possibly gory treatment for the upcoming Marvel Zombies show, which might necessitate a TV-MA rating.

Deadpool is not the only Marvel intellectual property featuring bloody and gory scenes. Based on Brad Winderbaum's most recent comments, the upcoming Marvel Zombies TV show might also be dabbling in Mature territory.

Marvel unveiled Marvel Zombies during the company’s 2022 San Diego Comic-Con panel. At that time, fans had asked whether they would see more of the undead version of Marvel’s heroes that appeared during the fifth episode of What If…? first season.

Not only did Marvel reply in the affirmative, but they also confirmed that the upcoming show will feature all the blood, splatter, and gore that people associate with any project involving the undead.

Brad Winderbaum revealed during a recent interview with IGN that Marvel Zombies will be intense enough to warrant a TV-MA rating from the Federal Communications Commission.

If so, Marvel Zombies would be the second TV show from the studio to carry that rating. Echo, a series focusing on the character first introduced in Hawkeye, also received the TV-MA rating from the FCC earlier this year.

It’s interesting to note that Marvel Zombies will be considered canonical to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was confirmed by a ComicBook.com interview with the show’s executive producer, Zeb Wells.

According to Wells, the series will occur in an alternate universe next to the prime MCU timeline. It will feature the characters who appeared in the What If…? episode and a host of new characters, including Shang-Chi, Kamala Khan, and Kate Bishop.

There is currently no information on the series’ release date. However, Wells confirmed that it is short - only four episodes.
