Marvel Writer Confirms an Eternals Star Almost Appeared in Moon Knight

Although Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight is a standalone series for Disney+, fans still desired some cameos and Easter Eggs that could potentially appear in the series. Aside from rumors that MCU vet Mark Ruffalo will be joining Isaac, Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater recently confirmed that an Eternals star almost made it to the series.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater explained how Kit Harington's Dane Whitman almost joined the series due to his association with Steven Grant's history geek background.

"We talked about Dane Whitman a little bit just because he works in a history museum and that could be a natural interaction," Slater said. "My feeling was if we got Kit Harington to show up and he doesn't suit up and he doesn't kick ass, as a fan I'm pissed off."

Slater then continued to say that Moon Knight might be the perfect development for Whitman's Black Knight, but sadly, never made it into the series.

"If I see him show up I want to see him go full Black Knight. Just seeing an interaction where he walks past and goes 'Oh hey Steven,' who responds 'Oh, hey Professor Whitman!' It felt like that would be a waste of the money it would cost Kit Harington in there," Slater said.

The writer concluded, "There was no space in those first two episodes to have him suit up and play Black Knight in the storyline, so we ultimately decided that it didn't make sense to make this connection. But it was something we definitely talked about a couple days in the room."

Theme-wise, Dane Whitman absolutely fits with the tone and theme of Moon Knight, and as Slater's comment, this would've been the perfect MCU introduction to the Black Knight, however, it looks like the series entirely concentrated on Oscar Isaac's three personas, Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and Jake Lockley.

As much as fans would love to see Dane Whitman in the series, the MCU's Black Knight could still appear in future MCU projects, or maybe on Moon Knight's second season, if ever that happens.

Black Knight is also an intriguing character like Oscar Isaac's titular hero. Much like Moon Knight, Black Knight is also an expert combatant, physicist, a strategist, and wields the mystical Ebony Blade. Casting an actor like Kit Harington in the role and starring him as a side character for a standalone series might be a waste for Marvel Studios. Who knows, maybe we'll get a Black Knight series too after all.

All episodes of Moon Knight are streaming on Disney+.
