Marvel Teases a New Beginning for Thor With Series Trailer

When you think you've learned everything about the God of Thunder, Marvel will be relaunching a new Thor series that will tackle the story of how he becomes the King of Asgard, and how it will be easily taken away from him.

Initially announced at New York Comic-Con, the series will be under a new creative team; including Donny Cates as the writer and artist Nic Klein. A new trailer for the series was released which shows Cates, editor Will Moss, and editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski talk about the new Thor comics.

Cates is known to tackle stories about mythology, lore, and gods. He said he now has the opportunity "to play with them and build them up." The writer claims once he builds up the mythology in the story, he will break them, "all of them!"

Moss said that even though the story is picking up Jason Aaron's saga, it will still be "new-reader friendly." He also claims that Loki will be featured in the story.

Cebulski says Cates took Thor to places that previous writers already put the character in. However, Cebulski said Cates has a "unique mind" and has a "unique take" on doing things with the God of Thunder "on such a scale that is unimaginable."

The EIC said Cates' ideas were so big that they had to find an artist who "could live up" to the script and what the story is essentially going to be. They picked Nic Klein, who they claim is the only guy they knew who could live up "to the action, to the adventure, and to the seismic scripts."

Marvel fans are gonna be in for a ride since Cebulski claims there is no limit to Cates' imagination and where he's taking Thor in the series. "He has everything, and now he's sitting on his throne kinda thinking about what happens tomorrow," Cates added.

Thor #1 is set for release on January 1, 2020.
