Spider-Man was the Reason Why Marvel President Kevin Feige Decided on Making a Star Wars Movie

Star Wars fans were certainly surprised when word came out that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was planning on developing a new film for the Star Wars franchise. No one really expected the Marvel producer to join the galaxy far, far away, not when Marvel is clearly busy building up its roster of films for phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Marvel fans have Spider-Man to thank for Feige's decision to join Star Wars. Speaking in an interview with Rolling Stone, Kennedy just recently spoke about Feige joining the franchise, revealing that it was the Marvel Studios President's experience working on Tom Holland's Spider-Man films that led him to the galaxy far, far away.

"Kevin has been a huge fan of Star Wars, and he's made that pretty clear," Kennedy said. "And I think when he went off to do a couple of the Spider-Man movies, he realized that he could kind of step in and out of what he's doing specifically with just Marvel. He talked to us, and he talked to the studio and said, 'You know, is there any chance I could step in and do one of the Star Wars movies?' And I thought it was a pretty cool idea."

While there's a lot of excitement building up over Feige's new Star Wars movie, fans are going to have to wait before the project becomes true. According to Kennedy, Lucasfilm is still at the beginning of the process of developing the project, which means the studio is still talking about Feige's new Star Wars movie.

This definitely makes sense. Lucasfilm still has to plan the future of the franchise after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres in December this year. Let's just wait and see what happens.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to debut on December 20, 2019.
