Marvel Studios Reportedly Wants Female Director for Captain Marvel 2 and New Avengers

It looks like Marvel Studios really is working on their next big crossover as reports are coming in about the company looking for a female director to work on both Captain Marvel 2 and a New Avengers movie. That's pretty big news and it will be interesting to see how this crossover will go now that Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame have raised our standards for these team-up movies.

According to Daniel Richtman (via CBR), Michelle McLaren is reportedly in talks to work on both of these movies, though she's supposedly one of many directors that the studio is talking to. The other choices include Anna Boden, who co-directed Captain Marvel with Ryan Fleck, Cate Shortland, who directed the upcoming Black Widow and Chloé Zhao, who is working on The Eternals.

Considering how big Infinity War and Endgame were, we're going to assume that something like New Avengers will be more similar in scale to Joss Whedon's The Avengers. That's far from a bad thing since the movie is still a lot of people's favorites in the MCU. The report also indicates that Captain Marvel 2 will be used to set-up the next big crossover, which has us thinking that it could be based on Secret Invasion.

Fans will be able to watch Captain Marvel 2 on July 8, 2022. No release date for New Avengers has been revealed, as of this writing.
