Longtime followers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are well aware of the long-standing rumor surrounding Tom Cruise almost nabbing the Iron Man role, a part that would catapult Robert Downey Jr. to global superstardom.

While both parties have continuously dismissed the rumor, the prospect of Cruise playing Tony Stark (a variant of him, at least) on the big screen once again tickled the fandom's imagination, especially after reports surfaced that he will make a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as part of the Illuminati.

Obviously, the reports weren't true which disappointed many but it looks like Marvel Studios still has an open slot for the screen icon.

According to X insider @CanWeGetToast, Marvel Studios is still adamant about getting the Top Gun and Mission: Impossible actor on board for a future MCU project to play Superior Iron Man, a multiversal variant of Tony Stark.

This came after the tipster compared Deadpool 3's wild rumor mill to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which also spawned some pretty crazy rumors prior to its release last year.

She then asked her followers what their favorite rumor from the Phase Four movie was with Tom Cruise as Superior Iron Man being the most memorable one.
