Despite Marvel Studios drawing major flak for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's evident decline in quality after Avengers: Endgame, Kevin Feige and his team are still determined to put out projects that will complete the entire Multiverse Saga. This year alone, three films slated for 2024 releases will begin production, including Thunderbolts which assembles a team of unlikely heroes that will take on Sentry, arguably one of Marvel's most powerful beings.

Speaking of the beloved comic book character, rumors have been persistent that the studio is looking to cast actor Ryan Gosling for the role and while several sources have been insisting on his involvement, a new rumor suggests that Marvel's answer to DC's Superman will be played by a POC actor.

According to Grace Randolph, the studio is currently eyeing an African American actor for the role. While the oftentimes reliable tipster didn't go into detail about the alleged creative plans for the character, Randolph speculates that it's a conscious effort on Marvel Studio's part to prevent Sentry from getting compared to The Boys' Homelander.

The Twitter scooper also recently claimed that Marvel will officially announce the actor who will play Sentry in Thunderbolts which makes complete sense given how cameras will begin rolling for the film in a couple of months.

Sentry is traditionally caucasian in the comics but the idea of Marvel tweaking the character's origin and race no longer comes as a surprise, especially considering they've "race-bent" several characters since the MCU's inception with the most recent example being Wonder Man who will be played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen in an upcoming solo show.

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts is currently slated to hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
