Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally saw the ascension of Sam Wilson as the new Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's thrilling finale and so far, everyone is sold on the idea of Anthony Mackie taking Chris Evans' place as the star-spangled man in the franchise. In the said finale episode, the former Falcon delivered an equally powerful and moving speech about the United States not being ready for someone like him to take on the mantle and it left quite the impression on viewers, establishing what kind of Cap Sam is going to be.

But as good as his speech sounded, apparently, the full monologue Mackie intended on using during the finale wasn't featured in the pivotal scene as Marvel Studios rejected one of his ideas. Appearing on Marvel Studios and Disney's recent Drive-In "For Your Consideration" event at the Rose Bowl Stadium (via JustJared), Anthony revealed that he wanted to include a MAGA reference in his monologue.

The actor explained: "With all of the protests and everything that went on in 2020, there were just as many Brown people as Black people as white people as Asian people. Everyone, everyone in this country at this time wants to see a change, and that monologue sums that up a beautiful way."

Mackie continued: "One thing I wanted to put at the end of the monologue — and it got shot down — as if we're going to ‘make America great again,' it has to be done by Americans. And no matter what your race, creed, color, or sexuality is, you're an American. And that's what I think the new Captain America captures."

Considering the MAGA rhetoric has long been associated with ex-US President Donald Trump who used it as his official campaign slogan in 2016, Marvel Studios undoubtedly averted disaster by turning down Anthony's pitch which most likely would've raised many eyebrows. I mean, it's no secret that a lot of folks within the Marvel fandom are critical of Trump and it even led to actors like Chris Pratt getting canceled online. The studio definitely made the right call.

All episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are available for streaming on Disney+.
