The rumors are indeed true. Despite Marvel's Avengers failing to hit the mark with Marvel fans and gamers alike, Square Enix just announced the upcoming release of another Marvel video game that will feature the fan-favorite Guardians of the Galaxy. The said game will most likely be set within the same universe ala MCU although other details about it have yet to be announced.

Following the bombshell announcement of Guardians of the Galaxy's release, Star-Lord actor Chris Pratt trended on Twitter amid all the hype for the video game. However, instead of it being filled with excitement and positivity, the controversial actor was once again lambasted by fans who expressed their collective relief that Square Enix won't be using his likeness.

To those unaware, Pratt has been on the receiving end of backlash over the last couple of months over his political stance, as well as several allegations of racism and homophobia. Check out the reactions here:

More often than not, video game studios and developers refrain from using the actor's resemblance for movie tie-in games because getting their likeness would mean that they'll have to pay the actors a huge chunk of money. Of course, as cool as that sounds, it doesn't exactly sound all that practical considering they have a specific budget to make use of. On the flip side, the game will have the chance to right the wrongs of Marvel's Avengers in terms of overall gaming experience.

Hitting stores on October 26th, Square Enix's Guardians of the Galaxy is already available for preorder on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is slated for release on May 5, 2023.
