Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Says They 'Absolutely' Have Plans for Representation

Marvel has been taking strides towards diversity and representation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with films like Black Widow and Captain Marvel.

Now, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige doubles down on the studio's intent for inclusivity in the franchise, saying that Marvel "absolutely" has plans to introduce more LGBTQ heroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Feige just recently spoke with fans during a question and answer segment hosted by the New York Film Academy (via ComicBook.com), and during the event, the Marvel producer was asked whether or not the studio has any sort of plan to introduce LGTQ characters, "specifically trans characters."

When faced with that kind of question, Feige pointed towards the upcoming Eternals movie.

"Yes. Absolutely, yes," Feige told the crowd, "And very soon, in a movie that we're shooting right now."

Another student present during the question and answer segment asked whether the success of Black Panther and Captain Marvel meant that Marvel would continue taking steps towards representation and diversity in the MCU, Feige responded with an affirmative, saying that it "was always the plan" for Marvel.

Thor: Ragnarok might have hinted at Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is a bisexual woman, however, now that Marvel is moving forward to Phase 4 of the MCU, the studio plans on introducing an openly gay superhero in The Eternals, a movie about a group of immortals charged with protecting the earth from deviants. While Feige never really revealed who the character would be, he did tell the press that "he's married, he's got a family, and that is just part of who he is."

Phase 4 of the MCU begins when Black Widow premieres on May 1, 2020. The Eternals is scheduled to debut on November 6, 2020.
