Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige Says Black Panther’s Nominations Are All Thanks To Ryan Coogler

Marvel fans have been busy celebrating Black Panther's Oscar nods today. Not only did the Marvel standalone movie earn itself a Best Picture nomination from this year's Academy Awards, but Black Panther also won nods in five other different categories including Best Original Music Score, Best Production Design, Best Sound Editing, Best Costume Design, and Best Sound Mixing. However, the film was snubbed for Best Director, a category which many feel that Black Panther should have been included in.

While Ryan Coogler's efforts in writing and directing the Marvel standalone went unnoticed by the Oscars, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hasn't forgotten everything the director's done for the franchise.

Speaking in an interview with The New York Times in an interview, Feige talks about Black Panther's Oscar nominations and credits all of the nods to Coogler.

"You're going to hear me say the name 'Ryan Coogler' constantly on this phone call," Feige said during the interview, "To me, the best thing a producer can do is find a person with something to say, who has a story to tell and can tell it in a way that the world responds to. That's what Mr. Coogler has done for us."

Coogler certainly did a great job on Black Panther. The film broke major ground for the comic book industry. Not only was the film Marvel's first standalone film for Chadwick Boseman's King of Wakanda, but it was also the studio's first all-black superhero movie. The film's success proved that moviegoers wanted to see representation and diversity in Hollywood's offerings.

Boseman is set to reprise his role as Black Panther in Avengers: Endgame which premieres on April 26, 2019.
