Marvel Fans Outraged By Black Panther Director’s Oscar Snub

Black Panther might have earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture along with nominations in six other categories in this year's Oscars, but it looks like fans are taking to heart the Academy's decision to leave out the film from Best Director, overlooking the accomplishments of the film's director, Ryan Coogler.

While many Marvel fans are busy celebrating Black Panther's big Best Picture nomination, others are busy pouring their outrage over the Best Director snub on social media, taking to Twitter to talk about just how frustrated they are with the oversight.

Not only do fans not understand how Coogler didn't get a nod from the Oscars, but they also feel like the director was robbed of a nomination, saying that it wasn't fair for the Academy to snub the filmmaker considering that he was the one who wrote and directed the film

While the tweets probably won't change the Academy's decision, it's good to see that fans appreciate Coogler's work and that they're rallying behind him at the Oscars. Black Panther, Coogler's first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, became a groundbreaking film for the comic book movie industry.

Not only was Black Panther the very first standalone movie for Chadwick Boseman's King of Wakanda, T'Challa, but the film also served as Marvel's very first all-black comic book movie. Black Panther's success proved to the Hollywood industry that moviegoers were looking for something more in their films – representation and diversity.

Boseman is set to reprise his role as Black Panther in Avengers: Endgame when the film premieres on April 26, 2019.
