Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Loki Scriptwriter Set to Develop a Star Wars Film

Reports came out in 2019 that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was tapped by Lucasfilm to develop a Star Wars film for the franchise. After two years of ambiguity regarding the projects, it has been reported that some writers for Marvel will also write a Star Wars film with Feige developing and producing the movie.

Michael Waldron is the write for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Loki. Deadline reported that Waldron will be writing the Star Wars film with Feige as the producer. Disney has yet to confirm the report. The outlet further reports that this will just be one of the new deal which Disney had with Waldron as he will also be brought back for the second season of Loki.

This new report clarifies Feige's role in the film. With this development, the film would mean Feige will be involved in the Star Wars movie in a similar capacity as he did with other Marvel Studios projects.

Longtime fans of the MCU were not entirely surprised. Avengers director Joe Russo admitted that Star Wars is Feige's "true love." Russo shared to The Hollywood Reporter, "Star Wars is Kevin's first and true love. He's a man who has a very, very large basement filled with enough Star Wars paraphernalia to fill a museum. Whatever he does with it is going to be passionate, emotional, and unique."

Fans have become more excited about Feige's involvement. The recent updates regarding the Star Wars universe showed that Lucasfilm is looking to ramp up its universe with Taika Waititi's film and Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins' Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.

Walt Disney Pictures Chairman Alan Horn said in a statement following Feige's Star Wars film announcement, "We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, [Lucasfilm president] Kathy [Kennedy] is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together."

Meanwhile, Loki is set to be released in May 2021 on Disney+.
