2023 will mark the end of an era for some of our favorite cosmic Marvel heroes as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to close out the chapter for Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Nebula. Director James Gunn has long been iterating that he intends to finish the Guardians' journey after the third film and judging by the stuff we've seen from the trailers so far, GOTG 3 does have a huge farewell feel to it.

Now, three months ahead of its theatrical premiere, it appears that Marvel Studios has already kickstarted the sequel's marketing campaign. In fact, the first line of Funko Pop! figures has already been revealed a number of days following the release of the film's Super Bowl LVII trailer.

The said line actually offers a massive spoiler for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with Groot apparently getting new superpowers and a bizarre one at that. The fan-favorite alien tree who surprised everyone with his swollen physique will showcase his new ability in the upcoming Phase Five film — flight.

Of course, Groot relies mostly on his brawn and he isn't that much of a flying creature so giving him the ability to fly has to be the most random thing ever. But hey, Gunn has been notorious for his outlandishness so I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise. It'll be interesting to see though how Groot utilizes his never-before-seen powers but I think we can all agree that a flying tree would be a sight to behold.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is hitting cinemas on May 5, 2023.
