Marvel has teased the Secret Empire project for a while. Now, we finally get to see what happens—and it's far from seeing things for the better after Civil War II.

ABC got the scoop on what could be the biggest reveal to date—and the immediate events surrounding this frustrating revelation. Apparently, Marvel's golden good boy Captain America, is, in fact, the biggest secret agent working for Hydra all along.

With this backdrop in mind, everything will change in the Marvel comics universe as it is. It appears that this change happened during the encounter between Kobik and Cap. When the former restored the latter's powers, he also changed his history so that Cap will be the best covert agent Hydra will ever have in the heroes' midst.

Since we already know this in Captain America #1, what Secret Empire will do is to follow the events where Steve Rogers finally makes his move as the Hydra operative. According to Marvel Senior VP Tom Brevoort, this will introduce a whole new way by which we will be looking at Cap from now on.

"Every time there's a scene with Steve Rogers, it takes on two levels of meaning. There's the surface of whatever's going on, whatever bad guy Cap and Spider-Man are punching and there's this secondary level, like what's he really doing? OMG, Spidey, be careful that guys actually a bad guy!'"

And Secret Empire will open with pretty much Steve already too far into the Marvel base and his plans so rooted and ripe for a Hydra takeover. This will mean a lot of action, given Steve's position as head of S.H.I.E.L.D.

"His plans and Hydra's plans will have begun to unfurl. We are done with the covert portion, the buildup portion of the program, Secret Empire is the pyrotechnics, the big Michael Bay blockbuster, huge colossal struggles and battles across the Marvel Universe, with all of our key characters and players taking on a big role."

And we'll be seeing all the action as early as the Secret Empire #0 issue, coming out on April. Secret Empire will be written by Nick Spencer, with cover art care of Mark Brooks and interior artists Steve McNiven, Andrea Sorrentino, Daniel Acuna, and Leinil Francis Yu. It's slated to run for nine issues.
