Marvel Reveals How Thor Got His 'God of Thunder' Nickname

Thor has been called the "God of Thunder" ever since the Asgardian God was conceptualized, as the character isn't just a Marvel superhero. There are numerous stories on how Thor became worthy of Mjolnir, with many assuming that his control over the weather and thunder being the reason why he was given the aforementioned moniker. Well, Jason Aaron and Mike del Mundo have a different version of how Thor got the nickname and it's pretty interesting.

In Thor #10, Odin revealed that he gave his son the title "God of Thunder" because of "mocking contempt." Apparently, Thor used to cry when the weather was rough and Odin would call him the God of Thunder as an insult. Eventually, Thor became a braver soul and kept the nickname, owning his fear. It's kind of like how Bruce Wayne became Batman because he was scared of bats, or how Izuku Midoriya took the name "Deku," which was an insult, and made it mean something different.

Honestly, it's a nice little story and the fact that these thoughts are juxtaposed with Odin fighting his son is actually quite tragic. Odin is so angry and prideful that he can't admit how much he loves his son, so the two end up fighting.

Families amiright?

Thor #10 is available now in comic book stores and digital services.
