Marvel Reveals How Black Widow Escaped in Captain America: Civil War

We're already getting Black Widow really soon but fans still have a lot of questions about Natasha Romanoff. For instance, how did she manage to get away after the events in Captain America: Civil War? Luckily, Marvel has finally revealed the truth.

In Civil War, Nat allowed Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes to escape, leading Tony Stark to report her actions to General Thunderbolt Ross. However, in Black Widow, Ross is set to be looking for Nat after what happened in the previous MCU film. So how exactly did Nat escape? It looks like she got some help from an old friend.

In the newly released Marvel comic book Black Widow Prelude Part 1, we are reintroduced to Councilwoman Hawley, who first appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Nat had previously pretended to be Hawley in the film, thus saving her life and that of others from Hydra's attempts. With that in mind, it is strongly suggested that Hawley is the one who is covering up for Nat.

At one point, Ross meets with Hawley, who immediately questions why the former is looking for Nat in the first place. She shows him footage of Nat's heroic attempts from the Triskelion then points out "the other Council members and I... we'd all be dead if it wasn't for her."

It isn't stated that Hawley is the one helping Nat escape Ross but let's face it, it's pretty obvious. Hawley does owe a debt to the Black Widow and we wouldn't be surprised if she's making sure her hero gets away.

Black Widow Prelude Part 1 is currently available on digital and at your favorite comic book stores. The film is scheduled for release on May 1.
