Marvel Reportedly Planning A Spider-Gwen Movie For The MCU

Spider-Man fans all know Gwen Stacy. The fictional character usually serves as a supporting character to the wall-crawler, and in some comic books the serves as a romantic interest for Peter Parker in college before she gets murdered by the Green Goblin. There are even comic books exploring alternate realities where Gwen Stacy is the one who gets bitten by a radioactive spider, becoming the web-swinger that everyone's come to love.

Now, a new report by Mikey Sutton on Pete's Basement, Marvel is considering introducing Spider-Gwen into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying that the studio is thinking of giving the character her own live-action movie. Not only that, but Gwen Stacy is also going to be given the chance to fight alongside some of the Marvel fanbase's favorite Avengers the same way Spider-Man was.

According to Sutton, "Disney has a mad crush on the character" because Gwen Stacy is very popular, especially among young girls who read comics and among fans of Spider-Man. Seeing how Gwen Stacy has a massive following, Marvel wants to put Stacy up front and center after her spot as side character in Spider-Man 3 (where she was played by Bryce Dallas Howard) and in The Amazing Spider-Man film franchise (where she was played by Emma Stone).

Marvel wants to "to produce and release a Spider-Gwen movie, have it fully set in the MCU, teaming the character with various Young Avengers. No casting has begun for Stacy yet. Discussions for this project have just started."

This is interesting news. Fans got to see Spider-Gwen in action on the big screen as a cartoon in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. We're sure the character would do well in a live-action film.

What do you think? Would you want to see Gwen Stacy played by an actual actress in a Spider-Gwen movie? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Marvel's next release, Black Widow, is set to premiere on May 1, 2020.
