Marvel President Kevin Feige Speaks About The Rumors Of First Gay Lead In The Eternals

Early this month, word came out that Marvel was planning to introduce its first openly gay lead in its upcoming prequel movie, The Eternals.

Rumor had it that the film would put the spotlight on Hercules, a bisexual superhero based on Heracles of Roman and Greek mythology. While the uninitiated might view Hercules as a straight male, the superhero has previously been written with a romantic relationship with Wolverine in the X-Treme X-Men series.

Now, as Avengers: Endgame approaches its release to usher in a new age for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige decides to address these rumors in an interview with i09. According to the Marvel bigwig, there is the high possibility of having more diversity and representation in the franchise.

"Well it's accurate in that we've talked about [it for] a long time," Feige said. "You look at the success of Captain Marvel and Black Panther. We want the movies to reflect the audience and we want every member of our global audience to see themselves reflected on the screen. And that's what we've been doing for a long time. And certainly, that's what we're focusing on going forward."

Feige doesn't give away any specific details, trying to avoid information that might spoil Endgame. One thing is certain however, Marvel is interested in having more diversity and representation in its films after the success of its all-black superhero movie Black Panther and its female-led comic book movie Captain Marvel.

We'll just have to wait for Endgame to finally premiere so that we can get concrete announcements about Marvel's plans for Phase 4 of the MCU.

Avengers: Endgame is set for release on April 26.
