A lot of MCU fans have been anticipating the second season of What If...? after the successful run of the first season back in 2021, especially with so many stories that they can tell within the multiverse and alternative takes on some of the iconic MCU moments.
As we've seen during its first season, the series usually takes the formula of using the same MCU characters that we know and love for the past 15 years and give them different scenarios that we've never seen before. Now, it looks like the upcoming season will take a different approach as they will introduce a brand-new superhero.
Marvel has finally confirmed that the second season of What If...? will introduce a new original superhero in the MCU: Kahhori. She will star in an episode that asks what would happen if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America.
In the episode, the Tesseract takes on a new life and a new mythology as it transforms a lake into a gateway to the stars and leads Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.
Ryan Little wrote the episode which was created in close collaboration with members of the Mohawk Nation like historian Doug George and Mohawk language expert Cecelia King to ensure cultural authenticity. It will be in the Mohawk language and is informed by the history of the Akwesasne region.
However, Marvel did not reveal which actress they have cast to voice the character and whether we will see Kahhori translate into the live-action world of the MCU at some point in the future. The character is also soon to be available as a Funko Vinyl Soda collectible.
This is certainly interesting and awesome for Marvel Studios since it's another way for them to diversify their portfolio and the characters in their growing library. Assuming that the character will be well-received, it would be curious to see if we'll ever see her in any other MCU projects soon.
