Marvel Fans React To Milana Vayntrub as Squirrel Girl First Look

In case you missed it, we got a glimpse at what could have been the New Warriors TV show. The Marvel series, which was set to air on Freeform, was announced back in 2017, filmed a pilot but never came to be. Luckily, we finally got our first look at Milana Vayntrub's Squirrel Girl and Marvel fans are freaking out.

In 2017, it was confirmed that a New Warriors TV show was being developed and would introduce Squirrel Girl, Mister Immortal, and a character who would eventually become M.O.D.O.K. However, there were reports that the series had trouble finding a network and had been canceled.

So what exactly happened? Showrunner Kevin Biegel decided to break his silence about the fate of New Warriors and it was confirmed that a Marvel TV executive "killed the show" because "it was very very proudly gay." Biegel then shared several behind-the-scenes looks at the series including a video of Squirrel Girl in action.

Sadly, Biegel had deleted all those awesome photos and clips but that didn't stop fans from freaking out over the Squirrel Girl we never got to see. (Biegel has since deleted his posts).

Interestingly, Biegel and the cast had filmed the pilot with no problem and it is reported that the pilot was well-received at Marvel. Unfortunately, as Biegel had confirmed, an exec opposed the show which ultimately led to its cancellation.

It's disappointing to know that New Warriors never came to be simply because someone thought it was "very very gay." Still, fans are hoping that there is a chance that we'll see Squirrel Girl in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.
