It seems like Marvel Television Studios is doing some spring cleaning and that has resulted in the cancelations of two shows that never really had the chance to get going; Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler. Both shows were expected to come to Hulu as part of Marvel's renewed focus on animation but it looks like that won't be happening, at least for now.
Kevin Smith told Newsarama that his team was informed of Howard the Duck's cancelation back on January 22. This is pretty sad since Smith showed a lot of excitement for the show and you would think that Marvel would want a geek with name power like Smith to work on one of their shows. Hopefully, this isn't the last we see of Howard the Duck but we'll have to wait and see.
They also confirmed that Dazzler & Tigra was also canceled after the show's entire writing staff was fired. Originally, this was just going to be a huge creative overhaul for the series but it looks like Marvel won't be pursuing this project anymore.
Here are Smith's comments:
"I got a text from [fellow executive producer] Dave Willis in the morning saying, 'We got Tigra and Dazzler'd.' I called him and asked āIs that what I think that means?' And Dave said he had just got the word that there will be no Howard the Duck show. The only explanation was āWe have no plans for this character at this time.'"
M.O.D.O.K. and Hit-Monkey are reportedly still coming out so it will be interesting to see how those shows go, especially since there was supposed to be a crossover called The Offenders featuring every character in these programs. It seems like Feige's Marvel TV overhaul really has begun.
No release date for M.O.D.O.K. or Hit-Monkey has been revealed.
