Marvel Boss Kevin Feige Comments on Toxic Internet Culture Judging New Movies

There is little doubt that the internet is one place you can always go to if you want to check on upcoming films. Unfortunately, the internet is also filled with possible spoilers and negative reviews about future movies. Not surprisingly, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has something to say about the toxic internet culture today.

Feige spoke to Tova Laiter of New York Film Academy's Directory of Industry Lecture Series and the Marvel Studios CCO pointed out that the way people talk about movies on the internet has drastically changed.

"It's great and that always used to be, there used to be stories of reshoots in the press when I started in the building right over there it was literally the dawn of the internet and the dawn of film blogging and Ain't It Cool News and people talking back and now we live in the hell pit we live in today, but at the time it was like 'wow, people have opinions on movies' and on X-Men 1 they didn't like anything about it and there was the quote 'well it's a Marvel movie so you know it's going to be bad,'" Feige said.

It's a disappointing observation considering that the things you can find on the internet these days are way worse than that comment. Unfortunately, this also means that movies are judged even before they could hit theaters and certain plot twists lose the element of surprise.

To make matters worse, these negative comments could lead to a film not doing well based on the opinion of others. Although it is unclear how things could change these days, we're still hoping that people will understand that a few reshoots don't necessarily mean that a movie is doomed.
