Avengers: Endgame Paid Tribute to Tragic Hero Who Took Captain America Mantle

It's been more than half a year since Avengers: Endgame was released but it seems like people are still finding interesting new Easter Eggs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. For instance, someone has just spotted a touching tribute to one of the most tragic heroes who took on the Captain America mantle in the comic books.

In Endgame, Steve Rogers and Tony Stark needed to go back to 1970 to procure the Tesseract as well as Pym particles from the SHIELD headquarters. Steve's disguise was a uniform with the name "Roscoe", which is now believed to be a reference to Roscoe Simons. Interestingly, Roscoe actually pretended to be Captain America in the comic books but his story has a tragic ending.

In the comics, Red Skull mistook Roscoe as the real Captain America and was understandably enraged when he realized he's been tricked (via Screenrant). In his anger, the villain killed Roscoe and strung his body up for everyone, including Steve, to see.

It's a sad reminder of how villains can be terrifying and heroes can easily get killed at any moment. Nevertheless, it was a touching tribute to a young hero who only became Captain America for a short time.

But what are the chances that we'll see Steve once again take on the Captain America mantle in the MCU? It's unlikely at the moment considering that Steve had already passed his shield to Sam Wilson. However, this also means we can look forward to a new Captain America hopefully showing up in Sam and Bucky Barnes' new Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
