Marvel Actor Desperate to Star in Upcoming Netflix Movie

Desperation is not a bad thing if one knows that he truly wants something or is willing enough to take any means to get it. Guardians of the Galaxy Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista, who previously announced that he was ending his superhero journey with the film’s third installment, has been very firm about his decision to leave the post as a guardian. Given that he now has ample time to join other franchises, Bautista restated his hopes to be part of Netflix's upcoming video game adaptation.

Speaking with Variety, Bautista expressed his enthusiasm again to star in Netflix's Gears of War movie. Before the project was even announced, the former WWE superstar had lobbied for a role in the movie for multiple years now. The actor’s obvious love for the third-person shooter video game made him reject a role in the Fast & Furious franchise so that he could pitch a movie adaptation of the game to Warner Bros., but the studio had no interest in it.

Netflix came to the rescue to adapt Gears of War in partnership with the game’s developer, The Coalition. Bautista noted that he could bring a lot of heart to legendary war hero Marcus Fenix. “I only hope they will. It’s a part that I’ve sought after for years, and I feel like I could bring a lot of heart to Marcus Fenix. I really would. I think I would do that part justice. I feel confident in it, so hopefully, it’ll come my way, and we’ll be having this conversation differently sometimes.” he said.

Sergeant Marcus Michael Fenix is a former Coalition of Ordered Governments army soldier. Marcus, a legendary war hero, distinguished himself during the Pendulum Wars, earning the Embry Star, the COG's highest military award, for his actions during the Battle of Aspho Fields. In addition, he is a convicted "coward" for his actions during the Battle of Ephyra. On Emergence Day, he, like the rest of humanity, witnessed everything change.

Since the late 2000s, Microsoft's exclusive tentpole property has been the Gears of War video game series. Gears of War has had five mainline games and three spinoff games since its debut in 2006. Aside from a film adaptation, Netflix has also announced plans for an adult animated series based on the video game.

Bautista has been very honest about his feelings about never playing Drax again, given that he finally wants to pursue more significant and dramatic stuff in the acting world. If he sees that Marcus is the character that will give him that satisfaction, fans believe that he should be given a chance to prove himself.
