It looks like Martin Scorsese's getting a whole lot of recognition at the Oscars this year, and as it turns out, the critically-acclaimed director has been receiving more Oscar nominations for his film The Irishman than Marvel Studios.

The Academy of Motion Picture Sciences just recently released its list of nominations for the various categories in the 92nd Academy Awards, and everyone soon learned that Scorsese's The Irishman received quite a number of nominations from the award-giving body. Following Joker which leads this year's Oscars with 11 nominations, The Irishman managed to glom 10 nominations this year, taking in a nomination for Best Picture and Best Director.

Marvel, on the other hand, received very few recognition from the Oscars despite the fact that the film had released Avengers: Endgame last year, a massively successful movie that had unseated Avatar to become the highest-grossing Hollywood movie of all time.

Disney might have pushed for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Lead Actor and a whole lot of other major categories for the Marvel movie, however, the only nomination Endgame received from the Oscars was for Visual Effects – a category which the film will have to compete with The Irishman.

Scorsese must feel gratified by this outcome. Last year, the filmmaker caused quite a ruckus when he revealed that he didn't really consider Marvel movies cinema, instead referring to them as "amusement parks."

The revelation sparked a whole lot of debate online with Marvel fans countering the director's statement, and others defending it.

Avengers: Endgame is available on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital HD.
