Martial Arts Instructor Creates The Perfect School For Young Padawans

The Force is strong in this martial arts instructor.

Who says martial arts can't be combined with Star Wars?

Self-confessed Star Wars fan and Tai Chi instructor Faisal Mian decided to combine the two things that he loves most – martial arts and Star Wars – to create a place perfect for young padawans. And so, he founded the Silver Sabres Combat Academy two years ago in London's Finsbury Park.

Children taking fencing lessons with Mian are required to wear fencing masks and instead of swords, they use their own LED lightsabers. Mian's students are also encouraged to create their own costumes that they have to wear during the lessons.

Apparently, Mian was just "looking for a way to fence without using steel or wood."

According to the Daily Mirror, Mian said:

We are a professional martial arts club with an inclination for dramatic theatre.
These sabres help the children focus because they light up the imagination as well as the blades. Some of the kids come in dressed as Darth Vader and we encourage people to have a laugh and enjoy themselves.
The parents were as interested as the children were and so we offered adult classes too. This was before we knew about the new film and we thought we'd go with it and we've now managed to produce a martial art that reflects the well-known science fiction movies.
The kids all want to see these twirls and spins and we award additional points for dramatic effort, fencing isn't always the best of spectator sports and so we're trying to give the audience something exciting to watch.

Last month, the British Fencing endorsed the discipline and even allowed other teachers to train children as well as adults using new programmes.

Working out would undoubtedly be more enjoyable if we can use lightsabers. Hopefully, someone can come up with an exercise routine that involves using the Star Wars weapon.
