Mark Ruffalo Tried to Talk Marvel Out of Casting Him as the Hulk

Fans were initially skeptical when Mark Ruffalo was hired to replace Edward Norton in The Avengers, but it all turned out well, and almost a decade later, fans still love Ruffalo's Bruce Banner. What's interesting is that Ruffalo admits he tried to talk Marvel out of hiring him for the part.

Talking to Variety, Ruffalo explained that it was Joss Whedon and Robert Downey Jr. who convinced him to stay as the new Hulk. He says:

"I did try to talk them out of casting me... I said, 'I don't know if I'm the right guy, I've never done anything like this.' Between Joss and Robert, they were pretty convincing that I could do it. I was scared. I was really scared. I'm still scared. The technological aspect of it makes it really hard to work that way. I struggle with it all the time. But my motto is make fear your friend. Just keep pushing yourself into those places where you feel scared or challenged."

Amazingly enough, though Ruffalo was hesitant at first, he now looks comfortable when it comes to doing mo-cap for the Hulk. I have to say, besides playing Banner, Ruffalo does some great work trying to bring the Jade Giant to life, and it was even said that it was Ruffalo who had to talk to Josh Brolin when it was his turn to take on mo-cap when it came to Thanos.

We're not sure about the Hulk's future in the MCU for now, but hopefully they can keep Ruffalo onboard, even just to perform the voice. Ruffalo is said to be in talks for the She-Hulk series and he's also bounced around the idea of what he wants to see in a solo Hulk movie. If you ask me, they should just make the solo film a prequel as I think Banner's arc has already been completed with Smart Hulk in Endgame.

For now, the next MCU film, Black Widow, is set to come out on Nov. 6.
