Mark Ruffalo Addresses Robert Downey Jr.'s Rumored MCU Return

Despite his character's death in Avengers: Endgame, there have been rumors and speculations that Robert Downey Jr. will eventually make his MCU return in the future. So far, Marvel Studios remains adamant that the Tony Stark actor has moved on from the franchise and shot down the possibility of his return.

Some fans still believe that he can still come back, particularly in the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars since we are currently in the Multiverse Saga and it does open up the possibility of him returning even if it's a different variant of his iconic role.

In a recent appearance at the Emerald City Comic-Con (via The Direct), Mark Ruffalo, who plays Hulk/Bruce Banner in the MCU, was asked about his thoughts on losing his fellow O.G. Avengers Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in the franchise where he offered a more optimistic response which seemingly teases their return.

"Sad, but there is a time machine. And there are alternate universes and realities, so anything could happen," he said.

The actor was asked a follow-up question to clarify whether he was actually teasing the two actors' return. However, he gave a more cryptic answer in order to avoid accidentally giving out some spoilers.

Ruffalo responded, "[Laughs, looks at the ceiling] Are one of these boards going to fall on me? Man, are you trying to get me in trouble again? I'm not going to say it's not possible, but I'm not going to say it is."

While the Hulk actor didn't give a definitive answer, it sure does open up a conversation amongst fans who are hoping for Downey Jr.'s return to the franchise. It is also hard to tell whether he actually knows the answer, but it is still great to hear some optimism from him regarding it.

For now, let's just wait for any updates regarding the actor's potential return to the franchise. If it does happen, a lot of fans will certainly be happy and it will be a major event in MCU history.
