While there's going to be a hiatus on Star Wars movies after The Rise of Skywalker, the future of the franchise will be focused on its series on Disney+. And while Mark Hamill's time as Luke Skywalker has come to a close, he's optimistic of what's ahead for the Star Wars universe, specifically, for The Mandalorian.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hamill explains why his time on Star Wars is officially over, he also praised The Mandalorian in the process. "I think they have a wonderful advantage on The Mandalorian in that it's economical storytelling," the actor said. "They don't have the burden of delivering a gigantic special effects extravaganza like the films had to do."

"It sort of gets back to the basics of George [Lucas] envisioning it as a western in space," he added. "It has that tone of a Sergio Leone Western." Hamill says he's "very impressed" with the show and even thinks it's a "smart move" for the studio because "you can't keep trying to top."

"It's like the superhero movies that have to deliver these gargantuan epics," Hamill added. The actor pointed out that it's "excellent" for The Mandalorian to be able to "concentrate more" on the characters and its storytelling.

Hamill "can't imagine" returning to the Star Wars universe again to play Luke Skywalker but like most fans, he thinks his farewell is "bittersweet." The actor says he can't just be "greedy," since there are more stories to tell along with "great actors" who could tell them.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 arrives this October on Disney+.
