Disney released the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special last month to celebrate Life Day but as much potential as it had of becoming a reunion extravaganza, veteran Star Wars actor Mark Hamill wasn't part of the project to voice his character Luke Skywalker. In the animated special, Rey journeys through the galaxy in what could be best described as a fourth-wall-breaking adventure.

His conspicuous absence in the animated special left a lot of Star Wars fanatics disappointed but according to Hamill, he's got at least two good reasons as to why he didn't return in the project to become the voice of Luke Skywalker. In a new Twitter post, the legendary actor, who's also regarded for his brilliant voice acting work in animated shows like Batman: The Animated Series and Avatar: The Last Airbender jokingly said that he didn't want to tarnish the legacy of the original. He also said that Disney didn't approach him for the role.

Here's what Hamill had to say, "I did not play the voice of Luke in the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special because A) I didn't want to risk tarnishing the legendary status of the original. AND: B) They didn't ask me to. #TrueStory"

It's a shame, really that we never got to hear his iconic voice in the film but it's also quite hilarious how Hamill still holds the original Star Wars Holiday Special from 1978 in such high regard even though he's come out to say on multiple occasions that he's not that proud of the television special. We don't know what the future holds for Hamill who wrapped up his Star Wars duties in 2019's The Rise of Skywalker but it would be a treat to see him make a return in other Star Wars-related projects.
