Harley Quinn's always had a pretty close relationship with Poison Ivy in DC's comics and animated series. Now, DC Extended Universe star Margot Robbie wants the burgeoning superhero franchise to explore Harley's ties with Ivy in a new movie soon.
Speaking in an interview with Pride Source, Robbie was asked by interviewers whether she was aware of Harley's fluid sexuality and her romance with Poison Ivy in DC comics and animated shows. Not only has Robbie done her research well, but the actress also admits that even though the two won't get to meet in Birds of Prey, she wants to see the Harley and Poison Ivy tandem in future DCEU installments.
"Yeah. If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics they convey it as a friendship; in other comics, you can see that they're actually sexually involved as a couple," the actress told the publication. " I've been trying to – I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe, because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I'm looking to explore that on screen."
The level of the character's relationship has varied throughout the couples various iterations in the DC Comic Book Universe. Sometimes the two are left as best friends; other times they're presented as romantic partners. The two were even married in the comics this year.
It would definitely be interesting to see the Harley and Ivy relationship play out in the big screen, and we're certainly hoping that Warner Brothers tries to bring the two together in a future DCEU movie.
Birds of Prey is slated for release February 07, 2020.
