Given that it’s a series that has been showered with a lot of praise recently, it should come as no surprise that the award-winning Medalist manga is finally getting an anime soon.

The announcement was made recently via the upcoming show’s new Twitter account and website. There, details about the anime were shared, including its staff members and studio.

Medalist’s upcoming anime announcement is another milestone for the Monthly Afternoon as the manga magazine has gotten several adaptations just this season.

Medalist is the Next Monthly Afternoon Manga to Get an Anime

When it comes to manga magazines, most anime fans are probably only familiar with the likes of Weekly Shonen Jump or Shonen Magazine. But Monthly Afternoon is a seinen magazine that should be on fans’ radar.

This is because the magazine is home to several popular manga that received anime adaptations just in Spring 23. These include the cult hit Heavenly Delusion, as well as Skip and Loafer which is getting a lot of praise recently.

There’s also Vinland Saga Season 2 which is also based on an Afternoon manga. That’s not even counting classic titles like Mushishi and Parasyte.

Aside from being part of an incredible roster, Medalist also has an interesting story. As the title implies, the series follows Tsukasa Akeuraji as he trains figure skater Inori Yuitsuka so she can become a figure skating medalist.

While there have been many sports manga over the years, Medalist is interesting as it features a figure skater whom many believe to be too old to get started.

Since its release in 2020, Medalist has gotten a lot of praise from critics and readers. The manga even won the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category.

Medalist Anime Staff, Release Date

Though the announcement did not come with a new trailer, a teaser visual was released that features the fifth-grade figure skater Inori.

Along with the teaser, the manga’s author Tsurumaikada also shared a special illustration that features Tsukasa and Inori to celebrate the anime’s announcement.

The Medalist anime will be made by ENGI, the studio behind shows such as Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out, Trapped in a Dating Sim, and The Detective is Already Dead.

Currently, there’s no word yet on the cast and release date for the upcoming anime. Given that there’s no trailer yet, fans will probably have to wait until 2024 or at least late 2023 for its premiere.
