The Mandalorian: Rick Famuyiwa Will Serve as Executive Producer in Season 3

One of the main creative forces in the first two seasons of The Mandalorian is Rick Famuyiwa, who has directed three episodes of the series so far as well as a writing credit on two episodes. Now, it looks like his contribution to the galaxy far, far away has expanded as he is now going to take a bigger role in the third season of The Mandalorian.

Per ComicBook.com, it was announced during the recent Star Wars Celebration event that Famuyiwa has been promoted to executive producer in the third season of The Mandalorian as well as continuing his duty of directing episodes just like in the previous ones.

"For some reason, Jon saw my film Dope and said, 'That's Star Wars material,'" he said with a laugh during the panel. "Honestly, the first film I saw in the movie theaters was Star Wars and I remember waiting in that long line to go see that movie with no idea what I was gonna go see and from the moment I saw the opening crawl and the Star Destroyer flying over that screen, my life was changed."

He continued, "This has always been a dream of mine, to tell stories in this world, this universe, this galaxy and to get to walk in and Jon say, 'Hey, I want you to do the second episode of this thing,' and the follow-up, 'Hey, it was an honor!' I've been around for the ride ever since and I'm excited about the next season with a lot of exciting developments to come."

Famuyiwa's expanded role in the franchise is similar to some of his colleagues in the previous seasons. Deborah Chow, who directed two episodes of The Mandalorian season 1, ended up being hired to direct the entire Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Bryce Dallas Howard ended up directing more live-action episodes in the franchise. Taika Waititi is now working on a Star Wars film. Robert Rodriguez became one of the main directors and executive producers of The Book of Boba Fett.

With this promotion, Famuyiwa is now one of the main bosses in The Mandalorian and has a larger creative role in the development of the season unlike in the previous ones when he was only involved in the episodes that he was assigned to. It is unknown yet if the director's promotion also covers the future seasons. Either way, it is exciting to see what he has in store in the upcoming season.
