The latest Magic: The Gathering set Theros Beyond Death just hit stores today, and fans are excited to play the new cards inspired by ancient Greek mythology, especially the powerful cards in the expansion, and two of the most powerful cards in the set are the two elder titans, "Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger" and "Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath", but did you know that Wizards of the Coast originally planned to have a full cycle of Elder Titans in the Theros Beyond Death?
During the latest episode of Weekly MTG, R&D's Ian Duke and Ethan Fleischer talked about the development of Theros Beyond Death, discussing how the set's new mechanics as well as how they designed particular cards in the set. In the video, Fleischer confirmed that in the early stages of designing Theros Beyond Death, the set had "fewer gods and more titans", and that it had a full cycle of elder titans at mythic rare in the set, but the Magic designers ultimately decided to have more gods, and that it would be "too much of a tight fit to have two cycles at mythic rare" since each set usually only feature fifteen mythic rares, so they decided to feature the two best elder titan cards in the set.
Now I'm curious what the other elder titans do. Hopefully, WotC will release them in future sets.
