Magic: The Gathering Official Companion App Gets A Round Timer

Last month, Wizards of the Coast released the official Magic: The Gathering mobile app called Magic: The Gathering Companion, in open beta, and it's now available in iOS and Android devices in all languages that Magic is currently published in. Today, Wizards of the Coast has announced that they're adding a new feature that fans have been requesting: a round timer.

You can access the Companion's timer by opening advanced options from the "hamburger" menu in the upper right-hand corner of the app. But note that you need to log in using your Wizards Account to access the advanced options. Here's how it looks:

You can set rounds to last 50 minutes by checking that option, and in later builds, the timer will expand to allow users to select the length of time for rounds they want to run for their casual tournaments instead of limiting to just 50 minutes. Here's what the timer looks like in action:

Once the timer runs out, it will count upwards in negative time flashing red to signal that the round has ended. Here's how it looks:

This looks like a simple feature that will be useful in Friday Night Magic events and other local game store tournaments. Players will also be able to use this feature in their home tournaments or practice matches. The app is still in open beta but expect the developers to gradually add more useful features on this app for MTG players.
