Magic: The Gathering is Showing Continued Revenue Growth For Tabletop & Digital

Hasbro has published its report for revenue and operating profit growth for the second quarter of 2019, and it revealed that Magic: The Gathering revenue in both tabletop and digital is showing revenue growth for the company.

"We delivered a high-quality second quarter, with positive consumer trends at retail and profitable growth led by several geographies and brand categories," stated Brian Goldner, Hasbro's chairman and chief executive officer. "Our investments are differentiating Hasbro's portfolio and delivering profitable revenue streams, including continued MAGIC: THE GATHERING revenue growth in tabletop and digital. We grew revenues in the U.S. and Europe, and we believe we are well-positioned to deliver against our target of profitable growth for the full-year 2019."

The Q2 report also revealed: "For the quarter ended July 1, 2018, Wizards of the Coast digital gaming revenues of $10.9 million, and operating profit of $3.1 million."

According to the report, revenue growth has increased by 28% compared to last year's and that it was driven by digital gaming, primarily Magic: The Gathering Arena.

Last April, Goldner told Mad Moneythat tabletop Magic: The Gathering is growing and Magic Arena is driving more in-store growth and new players. He also talked about the upcoming mobile Magic: The Gathering game called Valor's Reach, which is currently on the test market.

Magic: The Gathering Arena is still in open beta but it's great to see that the game is turning out to be a huge success for the Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast. Thanks to Arena continuous revenue growth, Wizards of the Coast will most likely develop the game further as they continue to expand Magic: The Gathering as an esports brand.
