Magic: The Gathering Cards Will Be Banned in Multiple Formats Next Week

Wizards of the Coast has announced that the next Banned & Restricted update for Magic: The Gathering will be announced on Monday, May 18, 2020. The news was announced on the official Magic Twitter account:

"One week from today on 5/18 will be the next Banned & Restricted update, impacting the Vintage, Legacy, and Brawl formats," Wizards said. "MTGO Leagues for those formats will end at that time and be restarted with the updates."

To many Magic players, this news isn't surprising since the powerful Companion cards from Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths like Lurrus of the Dream-Den and Yorion, Sky Nomad have been problematic in multiple formats, ruining the diversity in the metagames. It's strange to see that we're seeing power level bans in Vintage and Legacy these days. Sadly though, Standard, which has also been problematic because of the dominance of Yorion-based decks, was not mentioned in Wizards' reminder, but that might soon change if the powerful Yorion archetypes continue to impact the Standard metagame.
