Magic: The Gathering Bans Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Card Due to Technical Issue

The latest Magic: The Gathering set is already available online, on Magic: The Gathering Arena, and Magic: The Gathering Online, and one of the most powerful cards from the monster-infested expansion is "Gyruda, Doom of Depths". The hybrid-Dimir-colored Demon Kraken with Companion proves to be effective in various ramp and combo strategies, and it's already seeing play in Standard, but the new card is already getting banned in MTGO's Legacy format due to a technical issue.

The official MTGO Twitter account made the announcement, and provided an explanation of the card's banning in the online client: "Due to an issue with Gyruda, Doom of Depths, we're temporarily banning it in Legacy," the MTGO Twitter account said. "Players who have the card as part of their Legacy League deck will be removed from the league, have their entry returned, and be granted 3 packs of Ikoria within 48 hours."

A follow-up tweet explained that the issue with Gyruda is its interaction with "Leyline of the Void" effects. They said that they are currently working to fix the issue that they hope would be resolved by next week (along with several other fixes).

In addition, they are also postponing the Legacy Showcase Qualifier until next Sunday, April 26, at 9:00 AM PT. Players who have qualified for this event will be getting a seperate email in April 18.
