Magic: The Gathering Arena Will Release Pioneer Masters & Amonkhet Remasters This Year

Pioneer, the new eternal Constructed Magic: The Gathering format that uses cards from Return to Ravnica and forward, has grown in popularity thanks to Wizards of the Coast's support with the Players Tour events earlier this year. It's clear that Pioneer, like Modern, is a fan-favorite format, and there are more major MTG events that will use Pioneer such as Grand Prix events, and the free $2,000 Pioneer event next month. However, although Pioneer is available in Magic Online, it's currently not availble in Magic: The Gathering Arena. There's the Historic eternal format in Arena, but fans are wondering if Pioneer will eventually be added to the game, and based on this month's State of the Game announcement for MTG Arena, it looks like we have a clear answer.

Today, WotC has confirmed that Pioneer Masters, and "remastered versions of Amonkhet" will be released in MTG Arena later this year.

"We worked with R&D to understand where we could add new cards to help counter any of the cards we suspended and which cards would work well to help build up the format for the remastered versions of Amonkhet, as well as Pioneer Masters, which we'll be releasing later this year"

This isn't entirely surprising since Wizards revealed last January that they were planning to add Pioneer Masters and Amonkhet rematers to the game eventually.

"We've also added Pioneer Set Remasters onto the in-concept list, which will include the Amonkhet remaster, as well the additional sets we're working in conjunction with Magic R&D to help bring the most relevant Pioneer cards to MTG Arena," Wizards said last January. "And as we continue to expand the available formats and ways to play, we've started to concept out a rework to our play blade to make organizing and finding these events easier."

Although it's still unclear what Pioneer Masters will exactly contain, or if it will also be released in tabletop form, it's good to hear that MTG Arena will eventually add one of the best eternal Constructed formats to the game.
