Magic: The Gathering Arena Reveals New Expansions Coming in 2021 Developer Roadmap


Wizards of the Coast recently shared what the Magic: The Gathering Arena developers are working on for the popular digital card game in the latest State of the Game, and while much of the update is focused on bringing MTG Arena to mobile and tablet devices for cross-platform play, we also got a look at the expansions they're planning to add to the game.

Wizards revealed the latest developer roadmap in the January 2021 State of the Game for MTG Arena, and it reveals that in addition to the new Standard-legal Magic: The Gathering sets releasing this year, Historic Anthology 4 and Pioneer Masters are also being planned for the game. However, WotC hasn't revealed any details for these sets that will feature eternal constructed-legal cards.

Of course, we already know that the Norse mythology-inspired set Kaldheim is scheduled to release later this month. Strixhaven: School of Magesis currently in development, and the Dungeons & Dragons crossover expansion, Adventures in the Forgotten Realms is "in concept".

The developer roadmap also reveals that they're working on making technical improvements for the game such as collection interface improvements, a rework on its play blade, and the deck sharing ability.

Android, iOS, and tablet support are currently in development, and the early access for Android devices is scheduled to launch in Jan. 28. Be sure to check out more information on the mobile version's release dates and first look at the gampelay here.
