We're still a few years away from seeing Spider-Man's return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but that hasn't stopped Sony Pictures from expanding its own shared universe featuring iconic characters from the Spidey lore. One project that has piqued the interest of fans is the upcoming Madame Web film starring Dakota Johnson as the titular Marvel character.

As it stands, we still don't know much about the spinoff project but its rumored plot recently leaked online and it's too wild to believe. This comes from the oftentimes reliable tipster Daniel Richtman who claims Madame Web's plot will be similar to the original Terminator film.

Richtman says that the project will see a group of superheroes protecting Mary Parker (played by Emma Roberts) from its main villain. Turns out that the unnamed antagonist is out to get Mary to make sure that Peter Parker isn't born.

Obviously, since it's just a rumor for now, it's best to take it with a grain of salt but if that's actually the case, then that would mean that the project is taking place in its own universe and not in the main SonyVerse continuity where Venom, Carnage, and Morbius exist.

Of course, it was never revealed in any of those films if Spidey actually exists but there has been major speculation that they are part of Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man universe which would make a ton of sense, especially after Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Sony Pictures' Madame Web is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on October 6, 2023.
